Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Management

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville

RHTM Appalachian Spring

It is almost time for the 2017 Appalachian Spring Fundraising Gala!  This year will be extra special as it is the 15th time that the event is organized. There is no better way to celebrate this than by honoring the Bryant Family and Bacon & Co. The Bryant Family are the composers behind “Rocky Top”, UTK’s amazing theme song, and this year is the song’s 50th anniversary! Bacon & Company has been in business since 1925 and greatly contributes to the UTK spirit, by customizing the University of Tennessee Vol products.

For those of you who don’t know, Appalachian Springs is a “For Students, By Students” event that generates funds to provide retail and hospitality students with an enriched educational experience at the University of Tennessee.  These funds support the participation of students in industry-related study tours, study abroad programs, unique internships, professional meetings and leadership development experiences. Students create the ambience for the evening, plan a delicious four-course gourmet meal (each separate course is prepared by a different sous chef), and manage every aspect of this special event from marketing to ticket sales. At the same time the students work to secure donations for the silent auction.

The event takes place on Friday the 24th of March. It starts at 5.30 P.M. at the Hilton Downtown in Knoxville.

We hope to see you there!

If you want to help us students with the event, but can’t be there, then there is a solution: attend one of our percentage nights! This means that the restaurants of the percentage night will donate a percentage of the proceeds of that night to our fundraiser. This will help us to offset some of the cost. It is the perfect way to combine a date night, a friends night out or just a fun dinner with you showing  your Volunteer spirit by helping us out!

The first one will be on Friday March 3rd, from 5 pm to 10 pm at Jason’s Deli. Jason’s Deli offers a varied menu, ranging from soups to salads, sandwiches to pastas and much more. The restaurant also offers vegetarian and gluten-free options. You can even build your own sandwich and you don’t have to hesitate to take your children or babysit-kids with you, as there is also a kids menu.

The second percentage night is on Monday April 3rd, from 5 pm to 9 pm at Chipotle. Chipotle is a Tex-Mex food chain that lets you build your own burrito, burrito bowl, taco or salad. Kids menus are also available at Chipotle, as well as gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. In short: there is something for everyone!
